Capital BlueCross announced it has selected AllianceRx Walgreens Prime as their vendor for the procurement of specialty medications under the prescription drug benefit.
Effective January 1, 2018, AllianceRx Walgreens Prime will be the preferred specialty medication vendor for their commercial large group business and the exclusive specialty medication vendor for individual and small group products. In addition, AllianceRx Walgreens Prime will replace ACRO Pharmaceuticals as the pharmacy of choice to fill the medications that are covered under a customer’s medical plan and administered in a doctor’s office or facility.
Customer Transition
Customers must be enrolled with AllianceRx Walgreens Prime before filling their first medication to avoid disruption.
- To begin the transition, Capital BlueCross will provide AllianceRx Walgreens Prime with a list of current specialty pharmacy patients and their prescriptions on file.
- Capital BlueCross will send an introductory letter in early November to customers who currently use specialty medications.
- In mid-November, AllianceRx Walgreens Prime’s outbound call center will contact remaining customers to enroll in the new specialty pharmacy program.
- If the customer does not enroll after the initial outreach, a second welcome letter will be sent in early December to those with closed or open/closed plans.
It is critical that customers who currently use specialty medications enroll in the new program as AllianceRx Walgreens Prime will not ship medications until the customer has enrolled.
